1. The Principal investigator of OEFM Innovative Team
The Principal investigator of OEFM Innovative Team in KUST: Jianbei Qiu, male, born in January 1970, Professor, Ph.D. supervisor. Prof. Qiu has won the high-level talents of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, high-level overseas talents of Yunnan province, and the Science and Technology director of Yunnan Province. He is the associate director of Luminescence Committee of the Chinese Society of Rare Earth, executive director of Sol-Gel and Special Glass Committee of the Chinese Ceramic Society, member of Japan Ceramic Association, and member of Japan Society of Applied Physics and the Rare Earth Society. He has been long-term engaged in the research of photoelectric information, functional materials, nano-photoelectric materials and solar cell materials. He has been focus on developing the applications of new long afterglow, LED photoluminescence materials, ultra-wideband light amplification materials doped with rare earth or transition metal ions and their devices, modulation properties of traditional light functional materials by photonic crystals and nanostructures, tailoring upconversion and quantum effect luminescence, preparing high efficiency solar cell materials with spectral modulation function, and photocatalytic materials. He hosts more than 20 national and provincial and ministerial level of scientific research projects including 973 project sub subjects, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Key project of Yunnan Natural Science Foundation of China etc. Prof. Qiu published more than 300 SCI papers in international academic journals. He published 2 academic monographs and applied more than 50 patents which granted 27. He awarded the Japan Science Association prize in 1999, the Japan Ceramic Association Kurada Harumoto(1-2 per year in Asia) in 2005, the China Youth Academy Youth Science and Technology Award in 2009, and the second prize of Yunnan Natural Science Award in 2015.
2. Team Introduction
The OEFM innovation team mainly engaged in research the basic theory and applications of optoelectronic and energy materials. Facing the strategic needs of the world novel science among our Country and Yunnan province. Centre on the research direction of photoelectric functional materials and applications to form a complete research system of optical functional materials, developing rare earth based luminescent materials, LED product development, lights, and photovoltaic key components. The team also aims to bridge between technological achievements and industrialization which providing a platform for the certain influential domestic high-level personnel training and contribute to enhancing the core competitiveness of photovoltaic and photovoltaic industry in Yunnan Province.
It is reasonable about the team members' educational background, position and age level since the team established. At present, the team members are all under 45 years which including 9 Ph.D. degree; 4 Professors (including 3 Ph.D. supervisors), 3 Associate Professors. Prof. Jianbei Qiu is the national human resources and social security department‘s high-level returned talents. There are 1 overseas high-level talents and academic leaders in Yunnan province, 1 academic leader in Yunnan province and 1 "Xiang Jiang" fellowship holder.
The team promotes construction of rare earth light functional materials, thin-film photovoltaic semiconductor materials and other platforms on advanced experimental equipment to enhance the hardware conditions. At present, the lab covers 300 m2, purchases more than 30 sets of equipment. The development of the team has been built to a platform combine with material preparation, analysis, and testing together to achieve a rational allocation which provides a good support for the construction of high-level scientific research.
The team grows up rockets when it builds up. It achieves a series of fruitful achievements in scientific research in the field of basic electrical and photoelectric functional materials on optical, magnetic and structural properties and applications. The team undertook more than 30 projects including 973 pre-research projects, the National Natural Science Foundation (surface, youth, region), major and key projects, and the provincial hospital projects which total covers more than 10 million yuan of funding. The team published more than 300 SCI papers such as Journal of Materials Chemistry, Optics Letters, Journal of Applied Physics, Applied Optics, Optical materials etc. It applied more than 60 patents which granted 37 including 35 invention patents.
The team hosts 4 postdoctoral, 4 Ph.D. candidates, 34 postgraduate students and, more than 50 undergraduate students. 10 thesis won the excellent postgraduate student's thesis on the provincial level. Students in the team receive national scholarships every year and 12 postgraduate students received CSC scholarship to continue their studies in prestigious universities and institutes in USA, Germany, France, Australia and other countries.
For the transformation from scientific to industry technological achievements, the team cooperation with many large enterprises among provinces such as Share Ltd and Xinli Limited Share Ltd. The team explored a new model of production combined with research and industrialization.
